The text for this piece is taken from the Mantra of Verbal Purification from East Asian Buddhism. The mantra is believed to have the ability to cleanse one's negative karma, particularly those that come from speech. The mantra is often recited several times at the beginning of recitation or meditation sessions to purify one's mind for what follows.
